Shraddha Kapoor Biography
Shraddha Kapoor is the newest addition to Bollywood’s young actresses. Just two films old, she is the daughter of yesteryear’s on-screen villain Shakti Kapoor and his wife Shivangi. She has also walked the ramp for several designers at the Delhi Couture Week and other events.
Childhood and education
Shraddha was born on March 3, 1989 in Mumbai. She studied at the JamnabaiNarseeSchoolat Juhu, Mumbai. She joined the theatre studies course at the BostonUniversity, which she later quit to join films. She has done acting workshops with Royston Abel, Barry John and Ashley Lobo for her film Teen Patti, and has also taken diction classes from Mohit Tugnait for films.
Shraddha has an elder brother, Siddhant, who works as an assistant director and a DJ. It can be said that she has acting in her veins as her mother, Shivangi, is the sister of yesteryear actress Padmini Kolhapure.
Shraddha Kapoor has done two films till date, both of which have not fared too well. Her career, hence, is still in the nascent stage.
- She debuted in Bollywood films in February 2010 with Teen Patti, in which she played Aparna, a college rock star. The film also starred Amitabh Bachchan and Madhavan. Her launch was not noticed much as the movie didn’t do well at the Box-office.
- She was seen in May, 2011 in Yash Raj’s Luv ka the End with debutante Taaha Shah. Though the film bombed, Shraddha’s performance was appreciated, and she received good reviews. She had portrayed the character of the feisty Rhea, who doesn’t take her boyfriend’s two-timing hands-down. When she becomes aware of his betrayal, she gets over her shattered emotions, and avenges herself.
Shraddha had also been considered in 2011 for the female lead in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s My Friend Pinto starring Prateik Babbar. However, this did not materialize as Kalki Koechlin was later signed on for the role.
In the same year, Shraddha Kapoor was bonded by Aditya Chopra of Yash Raj Films for a three-film contract. However, she refused to act in Chopra’s Aurangzeb opposite Arjun Kapoor and went on to sign Aashiqui-2 instead with the Bhatt camp in 2012 without Yash Raj’s approval. This upset the Chopras who have now nullified the said contract.
She was rumored to be linked with actor Ranbir Kapoor. However she denied any such relationship.
Shraddha is an adventurer at the core. She loves swimming and scuba diving, and would like to do action-packed roles in the future.
She is also an ardent fan of actress Priyanka Chopra who, she feels, manages her career very well. When asked about her preferred choice of co-stars, she’s quick to point out that she would love to do movies with Shahid Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan.
Shraddha Kapoor was awarded the Stardust Searchlight Best Actress Award in 2012 for her movie Luv Ka the End. The January 2011 issue of Elle magazine featured Shraddha as their cover-girl. Itimes rated her as one of the Hottest New Faces of 2010. She is also the brand ambassador of Lakme cosmetics.
After a disappointing start, Shraddha is now hopeful of the Bhatt camp to revive her acting career.
